Nitter is down. Is x-pro.club a replacement?
Nitter was a no-login, no-ad front end for X. x-pro.club is not a replacement: you still use x.com while logged in. It only reduces timeline noise once X is open, and it hosts community reviews.
Comparison
| Item | Nitter | x-pro.club |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | An open-source front end for reading public posts without logging in, with no ads on the page. Public instances depend on X sessions owned by the operator. | Not a front end. The extension runs on x.com and needs your own login. It has no RSS of other people's timelines and no anonymous reader. |
| Does it still work | TechCrunch reported on 2026-09-15 that after X sent a cease-and-desist, the Nitter repo was archived read-only again on 2026-09-11 and XCancel suspended service. Public instances are unstable. Do not treat them as a long-term reader. | The extension is installed locally and does not depend on a public instance. It does not solve “read X without logging in”. |
| Price | The software is free. Instances are run by volunteers and disappear. | The extension and public reviews are free to use today. The pricing page lists Pro at ¥35/month ($5/month); checkout is not open yet. |
| Privacy | Without a login, X does not see your account. The instance operator can see which pages you request. | You are still logged into x.com, so X sees that session. The extension's bookmarks and rules are not uploaded. |
Where Nitter is the better tool
- Reading public posts without a login, or getting an RSS feed per account, is what Nitter was for. x-pro.club does neither.
- For a quiet timeline and nothing else, Control Panel for Twitter is the closer fit.
- Twillot advertises an anonymous public-post viewer. We do not promise it still loads, and it is not Nitter.
FAQ
- Is x-pro.club a Nitter alternative?
- No. Nitter was for reading without a login. x-pro.club expects you to use x.com while logged in. It only reduces timeline noise and hosts community reviews.
- How do I keep reading X without logging in?
- This page does not describe a way around login, and it has no self-host steps. Public Nitter instances are unstable and under legal pressure from X.
